Now in its 10th series, The Voice UK is a singing contest for unsigned artists who compete for a top prize of a recording contract with a major label. Judged by 4 coaches, usually chart-topping singers, contestants audition purely on their vocal ability. The judges will decide if they want the contestant without knowing what they look like, if they have any sort of stage presence, style, or what their personalities may be. The artists will then pick their mentor depending on who, if any, press their buzzer and turn around to declare they want them on their team.
The shows are recorded in two stages and locations. The first at dock10 in Manchester where the blind auditions take place, and then the following battles and knock out rounds in Elstree Studios in Borehamwood. Gallowglass event crew in Manchester and London support the show in both locations but today we are focusing on the show at Elstree Studios.
Assisting the delivery of set, lighting, sound, staging and video, Gallowglass supplied 55 different crew to cover 175-man days. Included were crew chiefs and a variety of general crew including plant operators to unload and distribute kit around the studio. Working 7 straight days to fulfil the build, 6 to turn the set from The Voice Kids to Adults and another 6 for the derig, our teams travelled a collective 1,952 miles to and from site.
