With her commitment to creating a positive workplace culture and her passion for supporting our employees, Shannon plays a pivotal role in ensuring that Gallowglass remains a great place to work. Join us as we delve into Shannon's background, her contributions to our team, and her unique perspectives on the world of HR.
1. How long have you worked at Gallowglass?
Since November 2021
2. What was your work experience before joining Gallowglass?
Before working at GG, I worked for a construction company. During my time there I was initially employed to help with admin but due to my previous experience in HR, I pretty much turned that role into a HR role. The company was quite small, and the two owners didn’t know anything about employment law, and general HR admin so I gave them a hand with that.
3. What led you to apply for a role with the company?
I’ve always had a passion for events, I studied events marketing at uni and spend a lot of my free time at events, gigs & festivals, so I thought it would be a fun move into an industry I’m super passionate about!
4. Describe a typical day in your job.
A typical day in the HR department doesn’t exist. Every day is pretty different, from doing interviews with potential recruits to speaking with external charities who are looking to place people from an underprivileged background into work, each day is totally different which keeps things exciting!
5. What’s the most rewarding aspect of your role?
My favourite part of my job is being able to give someone the chance to create a really rewarding career for themselves. I really love seeing crew who I have recruited, make their way up through the ranks.
6. What do you enjoy most about working for Gallowglass?
The people are awesome!
7. If your colleagues could describe you in three words, what would they be?
I have no idea, probably depends on the day.
8. Do you enjoy any hobbies outside of work?
Yes! I love going to concerts at local venues, my summers are filled with going to festivals every other weekend with my pals, cycling and I’m also a keen roller skater.
9. Tell us a funny story from your experiences during your time at Gallowglass?
I can’t actually think of anything funny worth mentioning, although, I’ve had some really cool experiences whilst working here. From getting a tour of Wembley Stadium and getting to stand on the stage before Ed Sheeran performed, to going to the Royal Albert Hall to watch Cirque Du Soleil and getting the chance to take my little sister to Reading Festival! Those are some cool experiences I probably wouldn’t have had otherwise!.
Shannon Cunningham is a key member of our Human Resources team here at Gallowglass. Her journey from a background in construction to a dynamic role in HR is a testament to her adaptability and commitment to her profession.
