As a trained actor, I’ve been attempting to forge my way into the industry for the last couple of years. As a result, I’ve been trying to build up a showreel, taking jobs that are predominantly in film, in the hunt for an agent. Despite this, the film world is tough, work is sporadic and fiercely fought-for, so having a stable and flexible form of employment to support my efforts is essential.
It’s been 18 months since I first began working for Gallowglass, and it has allowed me to fit a job into my ever-changing schedule. The work I’ve done since joining as a member of the events crew has been varied; there have been instances where I have completed a full week of crew work and others where I have filled-in shifts when called upon. Previously, I had taken on a variety of jobs to give me the levels of flexibility that I need as an actor. But these provided me with no real job satisfaction. Working at Gallowglass, I’m physically and mentally engaged, while meeting challenges and exercising, in addition to working with a really great team of people.
Promoting myself as a performer is an expensive process, and it’s an incredible comfort to know that working with Gallowglass can help me invest in my future career!

It’s been seven months since I first joined Gallowglass back in June 2017. As someone who is aspiring to study Events Management at university, I decided that it was vital for me to get some experience in the sector beforehand. I came across Gallowglass when searching online, and found it on a student job site.
I’m currently on a gap year working full time for Gallowglass. It’s the perfect role for me as it lets me gain valuable experience before starting my degree, while allowing me to save money at the same time.
I love working at Gallowglass. Not only do I have a great time working with the other event crew members, but I am also keeping fit during the process. While on jobs, I get to see and travel around London, which is something that wouldn’t be possible with other jobs that students typically undertake during their gap year.
Crewing is something I would definitely recommend for students who are looking for a gap year job, especially for those with an interest in events. However, it’s not an easy job and it requires hard work and dedication. In the future, my goal is to go to university to start a course in events management, which is something that has been made possible through my time with Gallowglass.
