From installing the infrastructure supporting some of the world’s most gripping sporting events and many of the UK’s biggest festivals, Gallowglass has played a vital role in bringing to life a huge range of events both nationally and globally. And this broad spectrum of experience has also enabled us to contribute to another exciting sector of the creative industries: Film.
Since the golden age of British cinema in the 1940s, the UK has been a leading player in the global film industry. As well as producing some of the most successful motion pictures of all time - including the James Bond and Harry Potter film franchises - the UK film industry also employs around 80,000 people across its three main sectors (film and video production, film and video distribution and film exhibition), making it one of the most lucrative and vibrant industries of the modern era.
Many Gallowglass team members have been fortunate enough to become part of this talented workforce, working alongside directors, cinematographers and screenwriters to quite literally set the scene for some of the UK’s greatest films.
As well as covering a variety of basic crewing tasks, such as loading and unloading kit, adjusting equipment where required and remaining on standby throughout filming, our crewmen have also had the exciting opportunity to play a part in a number of unique experiences that would never be accessible to members of the public. These have included assisting set, lighting and camera teams throughout specific shoots, working with creative professionals to produce artificial backdrops, and supporting stunt teams during dangerous manoeuvres.
When working on film sets, our crewmen are often required to work longer hours than they would do for a corporate or public event, due to the fact that filming is a delicate and precise process that often takes time to perfect. But we don’t hear many complaints. Not only does crewing on-set provide Gallowglass team members with the chance to broaden their skill sets, but gives them a phenomenal sense of achievement afterwards, knowing that their efficiency and dedication significantly contributed to the creation of some of the world’s best motion pictures. Our crews tell us it’s definitely worth the extra time.
In recent years, our event crews have worked on a variety of both national and international blockbuster titles from a mix of genres, including:
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018)
Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014)
Paddington 1 & 2 (2014, 2017)
Peter Rabbit (2018)
Transformers: The Last King (2017)
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
Wonder Woman (2017)
As the UK film industry continues to evolve and flourish, Gallowglass welcomes its advances. As the UK’s leading crew provider, it’s a priority for us to deliver the widest possible range of work opportunities for our crewmen. Not only are they enjoying first-hand experiences of the movie world, but they are being equipped with the knowledge and skill sets needed to support this dynamic industry.
